Many CPU hours are being wasted when computers are switched off for the night, power outages, restarts to apply security patches etc.

They may have a work unit at 99% complete in real terms at the time of shutdown (which is impossible to tell) but on restarting, we go back to 83.33% or worse.

With other projects, in most cases only a few minutes crunching is lost on these occasions, rather than potentially hours.

I would also like to see more checkpoints. SOP here in my little network is restart the computer rather than log off when through to clear out all the junk windows and EQ accumilate while the computer is running.
